As owner of Breathe Yoga, Christy believes leading others on the path of yoga is truly a blessing. She joins her deep appreciation of the history and tradition of yoga with a contemporary understanding of how yoga can benefit practitioners of this time and place.

Yoga entered Christy’s life in 1993, but it wasn’t until 10 years later that yoga bloomed into both a spiritual and physical passion for her, and she dove into the study of yoga philosophy. In 2008, she dedicated both her career and lifestyle to the study and practice of yoga. Since then, Christy has achieved yoga teacher certifications including:

  • 200 Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through Yoga Alliance, YogaFit Systems Worldwide
  • 200 ERYT (upon completing over 1000 hours of teaching as a registered 200RYT)
  • 500 RYT through Yoga Alliance, YogaFit Systems Worldwide

Christy has led yoga classes and teacher trainings throughout the United States and internationally. Christy has had the privilege to study with several wonderful teachers who have influenced her practice including:

Christy’s yoga teaching is centered on the breath. She uses postures as a way to understand the relationship between the breath, the body and the mind.

Kim Downs brings with her a blend of creativity and business experience to Breathe Yoga. Throughout her career in small business, Kim has brought an artistic flair to her endeavors. In 1982 she founded Village Flower Basket, she spent time with the Nordstrom Visual Team where she merchandised on a larger scale, she worked with ZenGenius on event decor and planning, and she cultivated a thriving gardening business with a lifelong friend. Still freelancing as a floral designer, Kim also works at Real Deals, The Works, and makes one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Kim has practiced yoga for many years. She believes strongly in the power of yoga to restore and refresh both body and spirit. Her interest in yoga, coupled with her business acumen and creativity, made her partnership as co-owner of Breathe Yoga an ideal opportunity.

Katie Gilbert, Registered Yoga Teacher

A true believer in the need to take care of yourself before you can take care of others, Katie completed her 200 hour teacher training in 2011 at CorePower Yoga in Chicago and continues to spread the love of yoga in a friendly, nonjudgmental environment. As a Licensed Independent Social Worker, she observed the uplifting and soothing changes in her mood and body through yoga and encourages her students to focus on themselves both physically and mentally.

Carolyn Hamstead, Registered Yoga Teacher

A student of yoga for 27 years and a registered nurse with a background in maternal/child health and psychology, Carolyn recognizes both the physical and physiological benefits from a regular yoga practice. She received her 200 ERYT from Studio Om in Pataskala, Ohio, has completed additional training thru Yoga Fit and Yoga U Online, and has been a loyal student of Sri Ravi Shankar on the breath-centric yoga method since 2008. Carolyn specializes in gentle yoga and meditation.

Marsha Otterstedt, Registered Yoga Teacher

Marsha received her teacher training in 2014 with Janice George from Samyoga in Columbus, Ohio. Her desire to share this physically healing practice with others (particularly those suffering from scoliosis and osteopenia) stems from her own healing and is matched by her genuine appreciation of the practice in its entirety.

Karen Scott, Registered Yoga Teacher

A student of yoga since 2003, Karen has achieved her 200 RYT through Yoga Alliance, YogaFit Systems Worldwide as well as her ERYT-200 upon completion of 1000 hours teaching Yoga as a RYT-200. She is currently working toward certification as a Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher through ChildLight Yoga, as well as being certified in ChildLight Yoga’s Teen Yoga and Children’s Yoga Level 1 and 2.She loves sharing yoga with everyone, especially teens and has developed and instucts Yoga for Fitness and Wellness at St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, where she has been teaching Physics since 1990.


Sam first discovered yoga as a means to relieve running and cycling injuries, but her practice has become internal over the last three years, radically altering her perceptions of both the world at large and her own self worth. As she has journeyed from the outside inward, her experiences have brought her the knowledge that a little external work can lead to big internal changes.  She explored this idea via a trek through Australia and India in 2015-2016 that culminated in a teacher-training course at Samyak Yoga in Mysore, India, where she was certified as a 200hr RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) through Yoga Alliance.  She’s delighted to return to her hometown and share with others the opportunity to do their own work at their own pace, just as she does in her own practice.  Her focus is on anatomical alignment, responding to the individual needs of the body (particularly for athletes), and breath as a tool for meditative concentration.


Looking for some calm amid the chaos of teaching kindergarten and going home to a house full of boys, Alice took her first yoga class more than 15 years ago.  She was hooked from the very start, completing yoga teacher training with the designation RYT-200 in 2012.  These days, there are more pets than kids at home, but she still looks to yoga to renew her body, mind and spirit.  When she’s not on her mat, she likes cooking, reading, hockey, and being outdoors.

Earning her 200-hour RYT at Balanced Yoga University in Columbus, Ohio, Jen’s teaching style emphasizes self-acceptance and honoring the body. Over the last 15 years, Jen has found yoga to be the one constant in her life. Amidst a successful career in marketing and the devastating loss of her mother to cancer, Jen realized her passion of sharing yoga with others. Jen continues to study the therapeutic science behind the practice and focuses on the healing powers of yoga for trauma and illness – with a particular desire to work with cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.


Susan Zingraf began her yoga journey more than 15 years ago while living in San Francisco, California. Exploring various styles including Vinyasa, Hatha, and Bikram, she fell in love with yoga and has been practicing ever since. Susan recently earned her 200-hour RYT to explore more deeply the philosophy, practice, and healing benefits of yoga, and is excited to now share them with others.
